The Bear's Armor
Vanrun's Armor set is custom crafted save for a few accessories.
Vanrun wears a bear skin that has been fitted to wear like a cloak around him. The closest resemblance to his cloak would be that of a Stormcloak Officer's attire. Vanrun has the paws of the bear crossed over his chest and fastened together to help keep keep it from falling off of him. The head of the bear is usually worn down to prevent the spike of his helmet from impaling the cloak.
He does have one bear cloak, however, that has been tailored around a steel horned helmet. Leaving the spike piercing through the head of the bear, and the horns curled around the bear's face like some nightmarish creature.

Nordic Carved Armor
When Vanrun began acquiring fame, he decided that he wanted a unique set of armor to go along with his new status. Having found a smith who could create a new set of armor for him, Vanrun brought along his two favorite sets of armor, and had the smith combine the two in a way that would help make his armor stand out.
Though... most still say that his armor looks a great deal like Nordic Cave Armor.

Wolf Armor
Vanrun admired the armor that he had seen some members of the Companions wearing while visiting Whiterun. He made sketches and notes of their armor, and brought his drawings with him when he commissioned his specially crafted unique armor.
He liked the color of the armor, the fur trim, and the designs running along the armor. |
Before the Fame?
Before Vanrun acquired the fame he needed to create his unique armor set, or came upon his Nordic Armor for that matter...
...he wore a mismatched set of armor and bear skins. Even then he preferred to wear the skins of his trophy bears as cloaks and cowls. Claws and teeth of his other trophies were usually hung around his neck, belt, boots, and gloves. |
